Hi, everyone. Happy best season!
TRIVIA QUESTION: The makers of the original Paranormal Activity changed the movie’s ending on the advice of which super-famous director? The answer is at the end of this newsletter.

If you’re someone who prefers print, the Tidepool hardcover is 39% off! (The hardback sale lasts longer than today, as far as I know.) THE KEEPER OF THE KEY STILL AVAILABLE ON NETGALLEY: As of this writing, The Keeper of the Key has 53 reviews on NetGalley with a four-star (out of five) average. I’d love to see it get even more and keep the word of mouth going. If you’re someone who regularly reviews books on Goodreads, Amazon, or on a website, the eARC is available for request until the beginning of November:

WHAT I’M WATCHING: This weekend I finally caught I Saw the TV Glow. Between this and her previous work We’re All Going to the World’s Fair, Jane Schoenbrun is quickly turning into one of my favorite filmmakers. She has a unique vision that’s really difficult to categorize (I wouldn’t call her films horror, but I wouldn’t not call them horror either, if that makes sense), and it’s like nothing I’ve ever seen before.
WHAT I’M READING: Just recently completed Gabino Iglesias’s new novel House of Bone and Rain. It’s another outstanding work that blends magic and cosmic horror with an all-too-real tragedy.
VOTE: If you’re American, or even if you aren’t, you may be aware that a U.S. Presidential election is right around the corner. Surprised me too; everyone’s been keeping so quiet about it! I’m not going to get into who I think should win, but I will encourage any Americans reading this to please vote. REVIEWS, REVIEWS, REVIEWS: If you have read any of my work, either my standalone books or anthologies I’ve appeared in, please leave an honest review on your site of choice. Yay, nay, or meh, they all matter.
TRIVIA ANSWER: Steven Spielberg became an early fan of Paranormal Activity when his bedroom door locked by itself while he was watching a screener of the film, scaring the crap out of him. He loved the movie, but suggested a different ending. The filmmakers wisely took his advice. The entire series of films has been running on cable this month. The original film and its prequel Paranormal Activity 2 still give me some serious creeps.
Thanks so much for reading, and if you know anyone who might be interested in my work, please feel free to pass this along to them.
Stay spooky and safe,
Nicole
This is the FIRST time I was EVER right in my response to your trivia question! Why am I so excited about this?! 😂😆🤣
Congratulations on all the accolades and recognition by way of reviews for your books. You truly deserve it, Nicole!
